“In this third decade of the 21st century, when art is mostly experienced digitally or in high-profile galleries and museums, it is more important than ever to keep community-based galleries alive. In Washington, DC, high real estate prices have pushed many art galleries out of the area. Yet it is essential that we preserve a platform for this city’s many artistic voices. I am committed to making Terzo Piano an enduring part of that platform.

I built this gallery space with designer David Jameson more than fifteen years ago for art dealer George Hemphill. Now, as Terzo Piano, it will be dedicated to showcasing the work of both major and under-recognized artists – those vital but often unheard voices that can wake us and move us and give expression to our times. Rather than represent a static stable of artists, Terzo Piano will employ guest curators to ensure that it discovers and presents a dynamic array of talents and visions.”
